When Your Day Starts Out…Not Right.
The alarm sounds, but there’s no way it’s time to get up yet. So we rest our eyes for a few more minutes. Can I get a witness?!
Later. Much later…our eyes shoot open in a panic, and we realize those few minutes turned into 43 minutes. Punch it Chewie! Time for hyperdrive. A quick cup of coffee and toast. Half-a-shower (or enough gel to look like we took a shower). And it’s only after we’re on our way that we think about connecting with God.
But we’re pressed for time, and the day already feels like it’s going to be rough—like 4-more-cups-of-coffee rough.
But hey, God never said we had to have it all together when we come to him. (Actually, he kind of said the opposite, like “Hey, I know you don’t have it all together, and that’s why I’m here to help.”) So what if we start there?
Here’s a prayer we pray when we want to have a good day at work, but the day doesn’t feel like it’s set up to be successful.
A Prayer for a Good Day at Work
Creator God, who built the universe, and employed us to manage it… who invented work with all of its purpose and dignity: Help me see the opportunity in my job today to take care of your creation and creatures. Meet me in my mission, and guide me to success as you define it. And in my haste and unsettledness, still my heart and mind to enjoy the good work you have given me to do for your glory, the good of the world, and my good. Amen.
There are lots of encouraging Bible verses for a good day—here’s our fav of the day:
“The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it” (Genesis 2:15).
